I have had dartitis, it's bloody horrible. I had it for about three years(late teens) until i got sick of it and gave up darts. I simply found it impossible to let go of the bloomin things. I would hold my breath, tense my legs, constantly loose my balance and fall forwards,shake my arm b4 trying to throw. when i did manage to let go there was no aim whatsoever. I got sick of everbody taking the michael "just throw the bloody thing, come on we haven't got all day, stand still will ya and so on. Im now 33 and have started playing again round a mates house, still crap at darts but at least i can let go of em.

hi everyone ! i have been crippled with dartitis for about 3 years and i am just starting to come through it ! believe me its still there but i am improving ive won 40% of my games this year and even hit a competitive 180 i thought i might share some of my opinions on what i believe has helped me and not helped me !unless you have experienced it you have no idea what its like and some people will take the mick relentlesley but i found a couple of players in my team who were cheering me on and encouraging me no end ! listen to these guys! talk to them when you are at your lowest and you feel a little better! treat a good game the same as a bad game! come off the board and forget it won or lost ! i used to remember every detail of my game and think about it after and sometimes day after recently i barely remember what happened in my games just if i won or lost ! forget how good you were you are not anymore! dont live on oh i used to do this i used to do that it ! all that matters is how you are doing here and now except you are rock bottom and basically you are re-learning a skill you once had! forget your technique i must have gone through my head a million times oh my dart used to start here my arm was so high etc i used to say on way home i got it sussed now my dart is where i want it !following week bang dartitis is back because all i can think about is where my arm should be and basically i should be looking at the board and not thinking about my arm! dont get drunk this makes it 10 times worse when you cant throw a dart ! and you will make yourself even more down and miserable!.at home keep trying to throw the dart if it takes 50 attempts to let go just keep trying and you can convince yourself you can throw a dart ! dont expect the dartitis to go away learn to play despite it i had it once and got rid of it but the fear it would return stayed with me for about 7 years until it did return i now except i can play despite it being there time to time and even won ...

i had this condition about 20 years ago , it took me about 5 years to get over it and am only in the last few years getting back to where i was before it started. what is definite is you are suffering a huge lack of confidence and not letting go is making it worse. the more you think about it the worse it gets. time , patience and excepting you wont win every game helps. dont aim for what you want just throw at the board without thought (this actually takes practise to do ) but will help .

I think I may be a sufferer too. Been in a league for many years and considered myself a decent threat. I am now a 33%er (1 dart scores out of three) and my delivery doesn't feel right. Almost awkward. This is truly a mental game. My current stress level is elevated a little. I warm up fine and then in the midst of a match, I choke. My delivery gets tight and clunky and that leads to the darts being released inconsistantly. So I want to share a method I will start using. Relaxation. While pitching in little league my father(coach)could see i was getting wild and call timeout, tell me to take a deep breath and relax. It always worked. While standing at the ocho I will slow down, take a deep breath, maybe a couple ghost throws to get the motion moving fluidly. Also, not act like a machine gun and rifle my throws out one after the other. Adjust my plant foot after each dart and regather my emotions. The game isnt timed, right?

It's so frustrating... I had dartitis two years ago, I arshly could hit the target (well, actually I'm not a good player even when I'm fine XD). My luck was that it affected only the left arm (I'm left-handed), and that I'm right-eye dominant, so I became ambidextrous and started using the right arm. After many months of relax the left-one forgot the dartitis.

About 6 years ago I woke up one sat morning with a stiff neck to one side and I could hardly use my darts arm [I was a good player having played super and county league.also winning tornament ], not being able to hit the board for weeks I eventually got back to playing, but my darts have gradually deteriorated. I have been told that a trapped nerve in my neck was the cause. I have now developed Dartitus unable to control or let go of the dart at certain times in a game my darts are appalling and I often feel laughed at when throwing.I am totally depressed at the situation having once being a really good player.has anyone got advice I am determined not to give in.
